Goal7's client required solutions for the decarbonisation of one of their energy from waste (EfW) facilities, as part of developing their long term strategy for waste treatment in a Net Zero economy. Goal7 produced a high-level feasibility review assessing the viability of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) export value chains from the client's facility
Motivation:
Goal7's client required solutions for the decarbonisation of one of their energy from waste (EfW) facilities, as part of developing their long term strategy for waste treatment in a Net Zero economy. Goal7 produced a high-level feasibility review assessing the viability of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) export value chains from the client's facility.
Our Approach:
Goal7 reviewed various possible CCS export value chains and made recommendations to the client using the following approach:
- Assess the constraints associated with the site and the likely restrictions associated with nearby road infrastructure, housing and industry
- Review all CO2 export routes (road, rail, inland waterway, and pipelines including reuse)
- Identify possible CO2 use cases including an assessment of local demand
- Identify other emitters in the area that could provide opportunities for aggregation to reduce costs
- Screen options to determine the optimal solution
Initial cost estimates where provided but the initial focus was on the technical feasibility due to the challenging characteristics of the site
Benefit and Impact: Goal7 prepared an initial technical screening documenting the potential CO2 export routes and advised next steps. The client remains committed to incorporating CCUS in its long term strategy and has engaged Goal7 on additional scopes of work related to decarbonisation solutions for their EfW facility
