Goal7's client, an established E&P company in Norway, aims to develop a portfolio of carbon stores as part of its commitment to achieve net-zero. Goal7 was engaged in supporting the preparation of nomination documents for the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) for a carbon storage site in the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS)
Motivation:
Goal7's client, an established E&P company in Norway, aims to develop a portfolio of carbon stores as part of its commitment to achieve net-zero. Goal7 was engaged in supporting the preparation of nomination documents for the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) for a carbon storage site in the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).
Our Approach:
From the onset of the project, Goal7 and the project partners worked collaboratively to develop CAPEX and OPEX case estimates, including additional sensitivity cases, which considered four different development scenarios, including shipping directly to the store or to a terminal location before injection. The potential scenarios were reviewed using a traffic light system to assess the high-level concept and accelerate it further to mature the nomination to the NPD.
Goal7 implemented learnings from previous research into the CCS value chain, including a review of transport solutions with the selection criteria factoring in CO2 volume, location, storage capacity, lifespan, distance, and technology, amongst others.
Finally, GIS mapping was used on potential European emitters to determine the accessibility of different emitter sites throughout North West Europe.
Benefit and Impact:
- CAPEX and OPEX cost estimates for four development scenarios of the full CCS value chain
- Maturation of an acreage nomination in the NCS
- Technical review of a CO2 trunkline value chain from North West Europe to Norway
