Celebrating 1 Year at Goal7- I’ve never looked back!

It’s hard to believe I am celebrating my first year with Goal7; it’s been a busy year and as a result has come around very quickly.

It’s hard to believe I am celebrating my first year with Goal7; it’s been a busy year and as a result has come around very quickly.

So, what led me to join the team at Goal7?

I graduated from the University of Strathclyde in May 2021 with MEng Mechanical Engineering, and I wanted to keep my options open when it came to applying for graduate positions. I’ve always had a passion for the outdoors, which I think comes from growing up in Scotland. Specifically, I really enjoy hiking and climbing, which I continued to pursue through involvement with the Mountaineering and Kayaking Societies at University. From this I’ve developed a real interest in preserving our natural landscape and the role I can play in this. I think this, combined with my studies sparked my interest in the position at Goal7.

Throughout my job search, I hadn’t specifically been looking to join a small, growing organization but I soon became very attracted to the idea of this following my interview. It was amazing to have the chance to speak directly with the team and I got a strong sense of the exposure to clients I’d be given, along with the responsibility and freedom which naturally comes with working in a small team. The reality has certainly lived up to my expectations.

What’s it really like at Goal7?

In the last year, I’ve enjoyed the chance to interact with clients, and worked a lot on the planning stages of projects. I am enjoying the technical exposure this has provided me and it’s good to put the knowledge I’ve gained from my degree into practice. Whilst the work can be quite demanding at times, it does feel very balanced as the project work is very interesting and this is naturally engaging. Throughout the past year I’ve had the opportunity to naturally take on more and more responsibility within our projects and have crafted my development plan to continue improving my technical and professional skills.

For anyone considering applying to join the team, the best way I can describe it is a blend between a technical and creative role; my job is about finding solutions that work in balance with the world around us. I also couldn’t go without mentioning our fantastic team; we offer a very relaxed and supportive working environment. We work in a very community-based style which comes with working on multi-disciplinary teams - it’s a lot of fun! I’m looking forward to welcoming new colleagues to the team in due course.
